Say goodbye to delays thanks to an optimised just-in-time process

Just-in-time is a well-known basic principle in car manufacturing. But what if production parts are stuck in traffic or a supplier can’t produce the requested parts in time? Xplore Group’s Freight Tracking System provides a global overview, enabling suppliers to take the right actions at the right time, long before their customer’s production line comes to a grinding halt.

In the past, suppliers of production parts combined phone, email and Excel to get shipments at the right place at the right time. However, they never had a global overview of the actual status of the logistics process, making it very difficult to write reports on the location of trucks or the expected arrival of production parts. On top of that, there was no uniform way of working throughout the supply chain. All data was simply stored in Excel.

To improve the logistics process and decrease the budget for the just-in-time supply chain, Xplore Group developed the Freight Tracking System. It is a real-time system that automatically tracks thousands of different transportation routes and nearly a million production parts per month. The data is gathered from different parties and centralized within the system. Data abnormalities (such as road accidents, delays in transportation or in production) can be detected. It allows all impacted partners to set up recovery actions, to mitigate the abnormalities and ultimately to prevent a production line stop.

Xplore Group acted as functional lead and proxy product owner for the development team. At the same time, Xplore Group discussed the business needs with the representatives of the logistic controllers and offered the validation experts for the project.

Xploration

Suppliers of automotive production parts needed a solution to better track and manage the just-in-time logistics process.

Our solution

Xplore Group developed a real-time system that automatically tracks the status of production parts.

Integration

  • Cucumber (Behaviour Driven Development)
  • Heroku with the Axon framework
  • React
  • REST API documented in Swagger
  • Atlassian stack (JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo)

Result

Delays in the supply chain of production parts are detected and appropriately dealt with, preventing production line stops.
